When Washington, DC wants to be seen as more than monuments and motorcades, it doesn’t reach for the skyline. For Experience DC, the District’s tourism campaign built to pull visitors past the Capitol-and-White-House cliché, director Nathan Colby swaps the stock-image version of the city for the one locals actually live in: late nights, lively neighborhoods, more museums per square mile than just about anywhere, and a food scene that earns its stars. Colby’s instinct for comedy and character does the heavy lifting. Instead of narrating DC’s greatest hits, the work lets the city’s personality carry the spot, confident, a little irreverent, and pointedly not a postcard. It’s destination marketing that carries the personality of the city.
